AEO for agencies
For an agency, the useful property of AEO is that it produces specific, defensible, client-visible work items out of a measurement you can run across a whole portfolio at once.
It generates scope instead of requiring it
Most retainer expansion conversations start with a proposal. This one starts with a finding: three engines tell prospective patients this practice does not accept a plan it has accepted for four years, and here is the verbatim quote.
That is a different conversation. The client is not evaluating a theory about AI; they are looking at a wrong sentence about their own business, and asking how quickly it can be fixed.
Triage the portfolio before you sell anything
Run a baseline across every client you already manage. In a book of thirty local businesses you will typically find a handful with a materially wrong high-stakes fact, several with AI crawlers blocked in robots.txt, and a long tail with no structured data at all.
The crawler blocks are the fastest credibility win available: a one-line change, a clear explanation of why it matters, and a measurable effect on whether engines can read the client's site at all.
Sell the fix, not the dashboard
Clients do not renew for a chart. Package the work the way the finding is shaped: correct the record, publish the structured data, correct the third-party listings the engines are actually quoting, then re-measure.
The re-measurement is the part that compounds. Once you have shown one client a control-adjusted improvement on a fix you made, you have a case study that sells the same work to every similar client in the portfolio.
Report in a way that survives scrutiny
Two disciplines protect you here. Report every rate with its margin of error, so a number that moves inside the noise is not oversold as a win. And always report what your untouched control questions did over the same window, so when an engine update flatters your numbers, you are the one who says so first.
This costs you the occasional dramatic slide. It buys you a client who believes the next number you show them.
Common questions
How do agencies price AEO work?
Most commonly as a per-location addition to an existing local SEO retainer, with the initial record-building and baseline measurement priced separately as onboarding, since that work is front-loaded.
Which client verticals benefit most?
Businesses where a single qualifying fact decides whether a customer contacts you at all: healthcare and dental practices with insurance networks, legal practices with practice areas and jurisdictions, home services with service areas, and any multi-location operator whose locations differ from one another.
Can AEO reporting be white-labelled?
It should be. The report is a client-facing artefact and usually carries the agency's branding, with the underlying measurement methodology stated plainly enough that a non-technical reader can follow it.
See what engines say about your business
Answerclaim asks the questions your customers ask, checks every claim against your verified record, and shows you which answers are wrong — with the margin of error, and with a control group so you can tell your fixes from the engine changing.
